"Yugoslavia."
Father--tata--called Yugoslavia. Father--Josip Broz Tito--the powerful one who raised him to who he is today. He was in the Ljubljana Hospital due to his poor health; and he just got his foot amputated.
Yugoslavia turned his body and looked at him in the eye softly.
"Yes, tata." he answered as he walked towards his bed.
"Will you be okay?" He asked. "Will you manage to survive?"
He made Yugoslavia froze. What does he mean?
"Vhat do jou mean, tata?" I whispered. I was afraid. "I vill."
"Davorin Krizan," he called me by my human name, his voice firm and strong. "if I die..."
"Don't say something like that, tata!" Yugoslavia raged. "jou von't!"
"No, Davorin, I will die. And you know it. Oh, and people know it too." Tata laughed slowly.
"But--!"
"No buts, Davorin. Look at me, I'm old and weak and powerless. I won't last long."
The nation shut his mouth; yes he have to agree at his tata's words. Still, he doesn't want to believe that his once glorious and powerful Father will die, will leave him, will be forgotten.
"Yugoslavia," he called him again by his nation name. "I don't want to say this, really, but..."
Yugoslavia raised his head and waited for Tito to continue.
"...I think I will be the last Yugoslavian."
"No, tata! Ve have a lot of Jugoslavian--!"
"Soon after my death, our people will slowly fade. There will be wars, Yugoslavia will be torn..." He said lowly, before adding. "And, Son, you will disappear."
That shook Yugoslavia the most.
"Tata, I..."
Davorin Krizan and Josip Broz Tito remained there in silence for god knows how long.
;
Tito died.
Four months after their conversation, the powerful one died.
Years after his funeral, Yugoslavia came and stood in front of his grave--his expression was cold and plain. His heart ached so much. He wanted to cry his heart out, but he can't. He wanted to scream to the top of his lungs, but he know he'll never be able to.
Tata was right.
Not too long after tata passed away, there was a war.
Yugoslavia disappeared from the map. The former nation was split into Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia.
"Tata," Davorin whispered desperately. "Izvinite."
